The Sculpture Trail | El Camino de Esculturas is a self-guided walking trail that winds from the studio, down into the arroyo and loops back up through the desert and into our labyrinth. While the trail showcases the variety of plants that thrive in the desert climate, the sculptural works along the trail are engaging with or contrasted against this landscape and will be rotated regularly.
Current works along the trail are:
Rock Candy Labyrinth
The labyrinth in embedded as part of the sculpture trail and is designed with an entrance and an exit. The center of the labyrinth currently has a small bird bath and a rock candy sculpture, the centerpiece sculpture will be changed out often. The labyrinth was designed with natural rocks found on site, but will over time be replaced with hand made ceramic rocks with a variety of green colored glazes.
The Umbels
The Umbels by artist Jenni Ward were inspired by the prolific fennel flowers growing in California, they were then transplanted to the Baja desert to silhouette beautifully against the sky. They were inspired by a curiosity about identifying edible plants, starting to recognize plants in the wild as food. These pieces talk about the disconnect we have with nature and the influence of agriculture on the health of the planet. There are 3 Umbels available, local installation is included in the price and the heights are adjustable for the location.
Swarm
Swarm is a work-in-progress by artist Jenni Ward, inspired by the swarms of bees that fly over the desert and all of the unique and strange insects that make the desert their home. This installation of abstract bug formations will grow in numbers to create a true swarm of them flying through the arroyo.
