I got up really, really early today to make my way up to The Compound Gallery in Oakland and install my Bone Series pieces for the Relics of the Tide exhibit. I’ve got a few hours to get everything up and looking amazing before I have to buzz back to Santa Cruz to teach class this afternoon. Whew, its a crazy day, but it all seems to be coming together. Hope to see you at the opening Saturday June 18th from 6-9 pm!

Nate’s Crates
A while back I wrote a post about what happens when you marry an artist. Well, here’s just one more example of how I just couldn’t do what I do without my talented husband Nate’s help. I’m shipping pieces freight for the first time to ArtPrize in Grand Rapids, Michigan and its been a learning experience for the both of us. This weekend Nate built me a sturdy wooden crate that all of my pieces will (hopefully) stay safe and sound in as they make their way across the country. I believe he has the potential to start a new business here, Nate’s Crates Inc. …not sure if he agrees!
Last Summer Sculpting Workshop for Kids!
Today we wrap up a summer of cr8iv sculpting for kids at the studio. This class will be making clay totems, a felt sewing project with Matisse inspired designs, plaster cast creatures and a few mini projects too. Thanks to everyone who joined in on the fun and made this a super cr8iv summer!

KQED video: Andres Amador
I love the KQED Arts videos that they put out profiling artists doing inspiring creative things. This one of Andres Amador‘s earthscapes was really beautiful to watch. Enjoy!
Going for a Swim
Teaser Alert!
This selection of new Bone Series pieces are off to New Jersey to go for a swim! This fall, I’ll be visiting family and friends for a few weeks on the east coast and (fingers crossed) if everyone stays healthy and the weather is good, we’ll be taking these guys diving into the Atlantic. My friend and underwater photographer Herb Segars will be documenting it all, along with my mom & husband helping underwater and our trusty deck crew helping out on top. With calm seas, a healthy crew and lots of help, we will hopefully be able to place these guys on the bottom with beautiful results. I’m hoping document the whole process with GoPros, and will share the results with you all soon!
Bubble Wrap and Boxes
For a little while a corner of the studio seemed suffocated in bubble wrap and boxes, now it seems a little more organized. Work is headed off to Hawaii, New Jersey, Michigan and next week to Oakland, hoping those fragile stickers do their job!
Where can I find your Art?
This is a question I get all the time when I meet new people who want to see my work in person rather than just in the website Shop. I have all my art exhibits listed in the Events page of my site, but I thought I’d put out a post with all the current and near future shows coming up. Hope that if you are local to these events you can get out there, support local businesses and BUY ART! Enjoy…

Summer Sculpting Workshop Session 4
Past the halfway point of summer workshops, today we are working with the basics. Pinch pots and coils to create cute coiled flamingos in pinch pot pools. We’ll be carving the pools to have wave patterns and when they are fired, we’ll melt some glass in the bottoms of them to appear like water. Once these guys are glazed and fired, we’ll glue in some wooden dowel legs so they can stand in their pools.
A few spots are still available if you’d like to join in on the fun: Sign Up for Summer Workshops Today!
Relics of the Tide at The Compound Gallery
relics of the tide: a new exhibit by jenni ward
July 18th-September 6th, 2015
Artist Reception: Saturday, July 18th, 2015 6-9
The Bone Series is a new line of ceramic sculpture that is focused on the remains of a form. The pieces are abstract interpretations of biological creatures that may have had fleshy fins, flanges or appendages, and these bone structures are all that remains after the flesh is gone. Ward imagines that these pieces might have been discovered in the natural world and are the only clues to the past of what this creature might have been. These relics have been preserved for viewing.
