if you live in california, you get it, this is apparently our new normal. for those of you not in california…
mudslides, flooding, power outages and huge storm surge has been going on for days with no signs of ending but at least we’re relieving our drought status
even urban hikes are hard to do these days, stay safe, warm and dry everyone

Had to make Bowie a raincoat, luckily he doesn’t mind it too much

Bowie turned 2 on December 15th, so I took him to his own private beach to run and run and run until he couldn’t run anymore
sunsets at the studio can be pretty amazing sometimes, got the bonus of this owl sitting on the wire
A very urban Bay Area Ridge Trail hike, under 580 freeway and through neighborhoods, but we did still spy two coyotes
We spotted this meadow from an opposing ridge and wanted to try to find it, was fun working on our navigation skills to make it here.
One of my favorite Bay Area Ridge Trail hikes to date, this one was above Pacifica and one of the few places where you can see the bay on one side of the ridge and the Pacific on the other, there was also a lot of historical and military features on this hike.

This week, outside the studio…

we spent the long thanksgiving weekend off the grid in our favorite spot, everyday was perfect weather for hiking and exploring

I wanted to add in another adventure photo here, but to be honest, we’ve been hunkering down with the cold, rainy days. I also haven’t been in the ocean in quite awhile too… but summer’s coming right??

sadly left my warm little home in the desert to head back to santa cruz
Before I got back to Santa Cruz though, we snuck in 2 more segments on our Bay Area Ridge Trail project, completing 15 of the 73 hikes.
One took us through the Lucas preserve and had views of Skywalker Ranch and the entire north bay and the other, a short segment through Skylawn Memorial Park cemetery, love getting to check out these unique spots in the Bay Area that we would of otherwise never discovered.

Got one more leg of the bay area ridge trail done! This one was a shorter hike through the presidio to the GG bridge. Also got to see Andy Goldsworthy’s Spire after it caught fire a few years ago.
after a very busy season in the studio, I escaped for a few weeks to our property in Baja for some much needed recharge time
such a treat to be in mexico for dia de los muertos

I walk Westcliff and Seabright areas daily with my dog but one of my favorite urban hikes is going lighthouse to lighthouse and back. It takes you on the cliffs, through the boardwalk, across the river, through neighborhoods and onto the beach, a little bit of everything in one long walk. Someday I’m going to plan a swim from lighthouse to lighthouse… stay tuned for that one!
When the water and the air are about the same temperature, you know you’re in for a cold morning swim but it’s sooooo pretty!
me: realizing my husband is taking pictures of me picking up trash at our campsite from previous visitors
him: this is good for your blog, it’s what you care about, you should share this part too
me: grumbling about how much humans suck and why can’t people pack their own trash out

**we packed out more trash from others than we made ourselves, seriously people – protect these places and leave no trace**
It’s the best time of year to hike Big Sur, when the temperature has dropped to keep you from nearly dying on the exposed very, very steep hillsides. This area burned in the Dolan Fire in 2020 and is just starting to recover.
the coastal mountain are so thigh burning steep but you can’t beat the views from the top.
